How to: Thrift the Perfect Button Up

Button ups are some of our favorite pieces to thrift.

And they have high quality brands at thrift stores

you’ll score on every time

  • Go to the men’s dress shirt section

  • Head to the L- XXL sizing

  • Look for a collar button (Allows you to be versatile with styling. You can have a structured collar or unbutton and style a flat, wide collar)

  • Have a color palette in mind. We love to look for earth tones

    • Brown (e.g. chocolate, umber, chestnut), beige (e.g. tan, khaki, sand), olive green, terracotta, ochre (yellowish-brown), taupe

  • Patterns

    • Pinstripe, small plaid print

  • Cuffs

    • Chunkier cuff, structured

  • Length

    • A shirt that passes just over your booty (nothing shorter)

  • Fabrics

    • Cotton, linen

  • Patterns (to avoid)

    • Big plaid print, horizontal stripes

  • How to make it vogue

    • Buy the stitch gun from Amazon, You can manipulate the shirt to fit you in different places

  • Buttons

    • Tortoise, white button, clear

We thrift locally at Savers, and we love going to Goodwill. Thrift stores are known to have solid button ups, so no matter where you go, you’ll find some goodies.
